Hi! I’m Lisa (she/hers). I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). I completed my Bachelor's of Arts degree in Psychology (Honours) at Western University and my Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology at Simon Fraser University. I am currently working towards my registration to become a Registered Play Therapist in BC.
I have over a decade of experience supporting adults, children, youth, and families. My career has primarily been in government and non-profit settings starting with the Kelty Patrick Dennehy Foundation and the Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre in Children’s Hospital in 2010. I have worked as a counsellor both in Canada and abroad in the United Kingdom. Along with working at Little Peak, I am on the Board of Directors for the BC Play Therapy Association and a counsellor at the Hope Centre at Lions Gate Hospital. I specialize in working with children, youth and their families. You are welcome here.
In my work with children, youth (and adults!) I draw on the principles of interpersonal neurobiology to support emotional regulation and build secure, trusting therapeutic relationships. Integrating brain science with relational attunement allows clients to walk a little bit deeper through their inner experience. Through this lens, I tailor each session to nurture the developing nervous system, foster resilience, and help children make sense of emotions in a way that promotes lasting emotional growth.
I am passionate about normalizing counselling and eliminating the stigma around mental health challenges (just ask me about my own journey with mental health and counselling). I recognize my immense privilege as a white, cis-gendered, woman in a hetero relationship. I grew up with access to housing, financial stability and education. As a settler here on the lands of Squamish, Musqueum, and Tsleil-waututh territories, I am committed to regular acts of reconciliation through ongoing personal education and engaging in calls to action.
It is essential to observe how the forces of privilege and oppression impact everyone's mental health and how my social location serves me in society. I am committed to ensuring that my practice is inclusive, accessible and informed by anti-oppressive practices and intersectional feminism.
I know firsthand that it can be scary to seek counselling but I also know that it can be incredibly liberating and life changing. My goal is to create a safe space so that you, your kids, and your family can experience the benefits of counselling.
I love music, animals, arts and crafts, and the feeling of taking a nap without having to set an alarm (which, as a mom of 2 kids and 2 cats, is rare). I can’t wait to get to know you, and hear all about what your favourite things are!
