We are so excited to be able to offer an opportunity for kids on the North Shore to build connections with peers at Little Peak Therapy. LEGO® Therapy is more than just play—it’s a structured, evidence-based approach that uses collaborative LEGO building to support the development of social, communication, and emotional regulation skills in children and youth. By combining play with therapeutic goals, LEGO® Therapy creates a low-pressure, high-engagement environment where learning and growth happen naturally.
What is LEGO® Therapy?
In a LEGO® Therapy session, children work together in small groups to complete LEGO building challenges or kits. Each child is assigned a specific role that changes each session:
Builder – puts the bricks together
Engineer – gives instructions from the manual
Supplier – finds and hands over the correct bricks
Director (optional) – manages the group and keeps things on track
The focus is on teamwork, turn-taking, communication, and problem-solving—not just the finished product. Sessions are playful, low-pressure, and designed to help kids practice flexible thinking and peer interaction in a supportive setting.
Who Is It For?
LEGO® Therapy is ideal for children who benefit from support in social communication, flexible thinking, and working cooperatively. It's often used for children who:
Are autistic
Have ADHD or anxiety
Struggle with social or communication skills
Children should be able to follow simple instructions and have some basic communication (verbally, with AAC, gestures, etc.). Groups are established based on developmental level. We’ll do a brief intake to ensure it’s a good fit.
Our Interdisciplinary Approach
Our LEGO® Therapy Groups are uniquely designed and run by a collaborative team of:
Occupational Therapists (OTs) – supporting sensory needs, regulation, and executive functioning
Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs) – guiding emotional regulation and social interaction
Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) – supporting language use, comprehension, and pragmatic communication
This interdisciplinary model ensures that each child’s individual needs are supported in a holistic, integrated way. The team works together to adapt the group and provide targeted strategies in the moment.
Why LEGO®?
LEGO is naturally engaging, structured, and predictable—making it the perfect tool for supporting kids who may feel overwhelmed by unstructured social situations. Because the focus is on a shared goal, communication becomes meaningful and purposeful. And most importantly - it’s fun!
